Here, you'll find a strong collection of freeware fonts and dingbats. All the fonts featured here are listed with the creators' permission, so you won't find any fonts of dubious origin. Unlike many font collections on the Web, here you'll find links to the sites where each font originated.
FontFace.com - This is an essential site for anyone in search of the latest and greatest free fonts on the Web. Often imitated, but never equaled, this pioneering site is home of the original "Font of the Day," which shows you, at a glance, what the Web's hottest new fonts are. FontFace.com has over 800 fonts and each font can be previewed via a nifty JavaScript "FontFirst" feature. (Note: fonts are available here for both Windows and Macs).
Font Search Engine - Looking for a specific font? This useful site offers over 10,000 free fonts and features a search engine, so you can quickly find what you need. Font Search Engine also includes a database of free font archives, font utilities and a roundup of free font designers.
Fontasy.de - Tilman Schalmey's fast-growing resource serves up over 1,600 free fonts, arranged alphabetically. The site offers a solid selection of fonts that we haven't seen elsewhere. Fontasy.de is offered in both the English and German languages.
FontReactor.com - Are you looking for free TrueType fonts? This uncluttered, easy-to-navigate site offers a nice and stylistically diverse collection of free fonts, sorted alphabetically. (The site is available in English and Spanish versions).
Dingbat Depot - The biggest resource of its kind, this site serves up a nice collection of free dingbat fonts. (Dingbats are an ornamental typeface, used for decorative purposes). New dingbats are added here weekly and there's a search engine to help you find the font you need quickly.
Fontsville.com - This site offers over 10,000 free TrueType fonts, sorted alphabetically, and is refreshingly free of the popup ads that plague many font sites. Fontsville.com offers a "custom preview" option that helps you determine which fonts suit your needs.
ActionFonts.com - At this site, you'll find a nice selection of freeware designer fonts, sorted alphabetically. The site also features a good roundup of dingbat fonts.
Acid Fonts - At this well-organized site, you'll find over 4,000 freeware fonts and dingbats, for Windows and Macs. There is also a good selection of font utilities, as well as a helpful "frequently asked questions" section.
TypeNow.net - An extensive resource, TypeNow.net serves up over 5,000 free fonts and dingbats for both Windows and Macs. There are also fonts here from non-Western languages, including Japanese, Indian, Russian and Arabic, as well as a handy glossary and FAQ.
High Fonts - A well-designed free fonts site that offers over 1,000 selections. Fonts are organized alphabetically and you may preview each selection before downloading it. The site also offers a roundup of programs that let you create your own fonts.
SearchFonts.com - A solid, uncluttered free fonts resource, this site features an excellent search engine to help you find the font style you're looking for, quickly.
EKNP.com - This site offers a good roundup of free fonts, sorted alphabetically. There are also categories here that include fonts in various styles, including 3D, alien, computer, decorative, futuristic, handwriting, horror, retro, and more.
Font Freak - A nicely designed, constantly updated resource, Font Freak offers thousands of free fonts for both Windows and Macs, both original and otherwise, organized alphabetically. You can preview each selection and, if you like it, download a ZIP compressed version. There's also a good selection of free dingbats.
Free Typewriter Fonts - This unique site specializes in free typewriter-themed fonts, a retro style that is increasingly popular among designers. There are over 70 font styles available here, including selections for both Windows and Macs.
Blue Vinyl Free Fonts - This elegantly designed, well-organized free fonts site manages to do everything right. There's a broad selection of TrueType fonts, listed by category and you can preview each font before downloading a fast-loading ZIP version. Blue Vinyl also offers a helpful mailing list to keep you on top of what's happening in the world of fonts. Categories here include Deco Cafe, Rock Star, Gothic, Modular 2000, Cyber Phonic, Grrlz Stuff, Retrobats, etc.
Fonts For Flash - This site offers a small selection of free, original pixel fonts, suitable for use in Macromedia Flash. To access the free fonts, click the "Freebies" link on the left side of the page.
iqAuto.com - Here's a free online 3D text generator that lets you easily create cool, custom graphics. Just type in the text you want and specify the options, which range from font texture to depth of text and within minutes, you'll be able to view your graphic.
FontLoader - This nifty freeware utility makes it easy to work with fonts on your computer. FontLoader offers a shell context menu extension that lets you load and install fonts by right-clicking on a font file or a folder containing fonts. Note: FontLoader does not support PostScript fonts, it works with TrueType fonts only. (For Windows).
Divide By Zero - A welcome addition to the Web's free font resources, Divide By Zero serves up a eye-catching collection of original TrueType fonts. They're free to use, but may not be resold (as part of a collection on CD, for example). Webmaster Tom Murphy doesn't beat around the bush on this site; he gets straight to the fonts on the main page. Each font is annotated with interesting commentary about its creation and suggestions for use. For those in a hurry, you can get all the fonts in a convenient ZIP file.
Windows 95 Font Smoother - A handy, free utility that previously was available only with the commercial Microsoft Plus! package. This program makes text easier to read and more pleasant to look at. Note: This utility will only work on machines capable of, and set to, 16bit (HiColor) color display modes or higher. (Note: this program is not needed with Windows 98--which has this feature already built in).
Font Mania - This nicely-designed resource offers over 400 free Windows TrueType fonts, conveniently organized. There's a "Top 10" listing and an archive of past favorites. A good collection, with many fonts that we've not seen elsewhere. This site offers a message board for you to place requests on. There are also helpful tips and tricks on using fonts.
